Boston Is More Than Just Red Socks

November 2nd, 2009 Posted in Featured, Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

I love Boston.  Just made my second trip in two years.  I think I may like it more than Manhattan.  I’ve gone in June and now in October.  The fall was spectacular.  The leaves were changing in the foreground while white steepled churches were stark in the background.  The people are friendly, the town is clean, the history is rich, and our hotel was amazing.

We went for business purposes.  My husband did work on a store that had its grand opening.  It was great to see how his company designed things for this flagship store.  I really enjoyed seeing the displays and checking things out.  After business was taken care of, we got to enjoy the sites and explore the city.  I love walking in big cities.  You see so much, can do so many things.  The weather was cool, but no rain.  I needed a coat, then the last day–no coat at all.

Sadly, we forgot our camera.  We did stay in the North End area on Battery Wharf and I’ve snagged some Internet photos just so you can see how cool the Little Italy is in the North End.

Walking along Hanover, you can smell garlic and olive oil and yummy pastries filling the streets from the various restaurants and bakeries.  Sitting in front of them are seasoned Italian Americas, proud of their stores, welcoming you to come inside.  I loved it.  In fact, I think it’s almost better than the real Italy!

My husband used his iPhone to take a picture of me at the first Boston fire station.  It’s not a very good shot, but it was fun to snap a memory!

IMG_0096We also went to the JFK Museum and I liked it.  Not sure I would as I’m not big into following politics.  I do remember the day JFK’s funeral was on the television.  My mom was sad.  After visiting the museum, and hearing JFK’s voice, seeing his photos, and learning more about him, what a tragedy for our country that his life was cut short.

Halloween in the North End was fabulous.  The weather was 70 degrees!  Golden leaves fell from the sky, the wind was slightly warm and balmy, the kids were dressed and trick or treated all the various businesses.  What a sense of community!

If you ever get the opportunity, visit Boston.  You won’t be disappointed.
