It was the summer of 1970, I was 12. Flipping channels on the old Zenith, I stumbled across a show that caught my adolescent attention. It was juicy with gossip, pretty characters, and mystery. Suddenly, Dark Shadows, my all time favorite drama, had competition. The show in question was All My Children–a soap opera. Read the rest of this entry »
Go Broncos
I never followed football until the last five years or so. I’m a baseball person. People used to tell me baseball was boring. I used to say football was boring. Now I’m kind of a convert thanks to the Boise State Broncos. Dare I say it . . . watching them in action makes baseball seem really boring. Read the rest of this entry »
My Left Foot
Today when you walk to the fridge, the restroom, or to get the newspaper, think of how fortunate you are that you’re able to stand on your own two feet and get to where you need to go. Tomorrow I’ll be heading into the O.R. for surgery on my left foot and I dread the morning with a passion. I had this same surgery Read the rest of this entry »
Ho Ho Ho . . . Please Don’t Snow Contest
Yes, I know . . . asking it not to snow in Idaho isn’t likely. However, maybe it won’t snow in November since I’ll have to be on crutches. (More later about this one!) In any case, in honor of winter’s approach, I’m giving away a copy of my anthology called Upon A Midnight Clear. I have a short story in this one along with Jude Deveraux, Linda Howard, Margaret Allison and Mariah Stewart. Read the rest of this entry »
“Dear Zachary: A Letter To A Son About His Father” . . . A Documentary
When we were in Boston, my husband and I selected the in-room movie service to watch. We chose this documentary based on the trailer. I haven’t heard of the movie, but the material sounded like something you’d view on 20/20 or 48 Hours. Wrong. This film was the most emotionally startling we have ever encountered. Nothing could have prepared us for the story that unfolded and held us in its grip. Read the rest of this entry »
Boston Is More Than Just Red Socks
I love Boston. Just made my second trip in two years. I think I may like it more than Manhattan. I’ve gone in June and now in October. The fall was spectacular. The leaves were changing in the foreground while white steepled churches were stark in the background. The people are friendly, the town is clean, the history is rich, and our hotel was amazing. And That’s The Way It Was
Recently, my mom gave me an old mailer she’d received with recipes in it. The address is to “Occupant” at 927 W. 30th in the greater L.A. area . . . that was where I lived as a little girl. Why she kept it all these years Read the rest of this entry »
Hi Ho, To Disneyland We Go
So my daughters and I made our anual trip to Disneyland again. This year we didn’t go for their birthdays in April, rather, we took a later in the year trip and combined a visit with my aunt and uncle in Arizona, then a stay with my folks in L.A., and finally onto Anaheim where my husband and stepdaughters met us and we all enjoyed the weekend together. What Next? Charging By The Pound?
I have just been set up by the airlines. I clicked PURCHASE on the so-so cost of some nonstop tickets–only to find out that that’s not all folks. What is going on here? I’m on three carriers and only Southwest is kind to me. They are the only ones not charging for bags. You go, guys! I might as well name names–US Air is charging $25.00 a bag. United is charging $25.00 a bag. This on top of the ticket price. Am I the only one outraged? Read the rest of this entry »
Help, Get Me Out Of Here
So not too long ago, we flew to an airshow in Ontario, OR. It was a great honor to have a WWII pilot command our Cessna–he’s a dear friend of my husband’s. All was well and good until Read the rest of this entry »
