Fall Into October Contest Winner Picked

November 7th, 2009 Posted in Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

Cocoa Puff the Yorkie picked the winner of the Fall Into October Contest . . . by a nose.  I took the entries and numbered them, and dropped the papers on the carpet in a large radius, and picked the one my dog went to first.  (I know it’s not scientific, but it worked!)  There were many entries and when I tossed them into the air, they kind of spread–so I had more than the papers shown in the photo with Cocoa.

Thanks to everyone who entered and shared their thoughts about fall!  Now as we head for Thanksgiving, I’ll be posting a new contest to end December 1 . . . a kick off to WINTER and Christmas.

Fall Idaho Sunrise

November 6th, 2009 Posted in Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

My husband took this photo of our backyard at sunrise this morning.  It doesn’t do the colors justice.  The brush of orange only stayed for less than a minute as the clouds skirted swiftly in the sky.  Not sure if you can see it or not, but there’s probably 50 ducks on the pond.  We usually get a lot who winter here, and at times, there are close to 100 in the backyard.

“Dear Zachary: A Letter To A Son About His Father” . . . A Documentary

November 5th, 2009 Posted in Featured, Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

When we were in Boston, my husband and I selected the in-room movie service to watch.  We chose this documentary based on the trailer.  I haven’t heard of the movie, but the material sounded like something you’d view on 20/20 or 48 Hours.  Wrong.  This film was the most emotionally startling we have ever encountered.  Nothing could have prepared us for the story that unfolded and held us in its grip. Boston Is More Than Just Red Socks

November 2nd, 2009 Posted in Featured, Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

I love Boston.  Just made my second trip in two years.  I think I may like it more than Manhattan.  I’ve gone in June and now in October.  The fall was spectacular.  The leaves were changing in the foreground while white steepled churches were stark in the background.  The people are friendly, the town is clean, the history is rich, and our hotel was amazing. I’m An Early Bird! (One Day Only)

November 2nd, 2009 Posted in Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

So I got up at 5:20am this morning–refreshed and ready to wake and take on the day.  How come?  A couple of things . . .

1.  Time Change

2.  My body clock was on an Eastern Time Zone.  I went to bed last night at 9:00pm and was asleep the second my head hit the pillow.

So this was a rare, and never to happen again, event for me.  :-)

We’ve been in Boston the past four days and it’s two hours later there.  So before the time change, 9:00pm Boise time was midnight Boston time.  I was ready to go to sleep!  But because of the time change, and me getting a solid eight hours of sleep, I woke at 5:20, refreshed.

My husband is an early bird.  He loves it.  Me–I got up . . . it was dark outside.  What can you do in the dark?  The newspaper is so sparse these days, I can read it in under three minutes.  There’s nothing on on television.  It’s too cold to put on exercise clothing.  So basically for the first two hours of my day in the dark, I sat in my jammies and drank coffee and stared at my handsome guy sitting on the sofa across from me.  Okay, so maybe there is a reason to get up early.

And That’s The Way It Was

October 25th, 2009 Posted in Featured, Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

Recently, my mom gave me an old mailer she’d received with recipes in it.  The address is to “Occupant” at 927 W. 30th in the greater L.A. area . . . that was where I lived as a little girl.  Why she kept it all these years Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome To Idaho

October 22nd, 2009 Posted in Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

Today’s Idaho Statesman ran photos (a contest and winners) of local scenes in Idaho.  It’s worth posting the link.  Some of the photos are outstanding and great images of the state I live in.   Enjoy.

Are You Calling For Ariel?

October 20th, 2009 Posted in Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

So when we were at Disneyland, we wanted to make a lunch reservation at Ariel’s Grotto in California Adventure Land.  Me–I have a great head for phone numbers.  I memorize them.  But with the invention of cell phones and telephones where you simply hit one number and your party is dialed, my phone number memory has been dimming.

When we were at Disney, I could have sworn I saw the reservation number as a 1-800 number.  I told my husband–call and set us up for a 1:30 lunch.

We’re walking on the boardwalk past the roller coaster and he laughs and says he’s connected to an adult hotline.  He’s a big jokester and I figured he was messing with me.  Then he handed me the phone.  No kidding.  It was a recording for hot babes and how to hook up.  I realized it wasn’t an 800 number after all . . . rather, he should have dialed 714 (the Anaheim area code) then the number I gave him–which had D-I-N-E as the last four numbers.

It sucks getting old and senile.  But maybe there was an Ariel on the hotline . . .

Hi Ho, To Disneyland We Go

October 19th, 2009 Posted in Featured, Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

So my daughters and I made our anual trip to Disneyland again.  This year we didn’t go for their birthdays in April, rather, we took a later in the year trip and combined a visit with my aunt and uncle in Arizona, then a stay with my folks in L.A., and finally onto Anaheim where my husband and stepdaughters met us and we all enjoyed the weekend together.  Read the rest of this entry »

What Next? Charging By The Pound?

October 11th, 2009 Posted in Featured, Stef Ann Holm Blog by Stef Ann

I have just been set up by the airlines.  I clicked PURCHASE on the so-so cost of some nonstop tickets–only to find out that that’s not all folks.  What is going on here?  I’m on three carriers and only Southwest is kind to me.  They are the only ones not charging for bags.  You go, guys!  I might as well name names–US Air is charging $25.00 a bag.  United is charging $25.00 a bag.  This on top of the ticket price.  Am I the only one outraged?  Read the rest of this entry »
